In December 2006, we went to Bangkok. We took many pictures on several cameras, but just last week, we discovered a film in the back of the cupboard that we’d forgotten to process. Tom, our friendly film processor based at 303 Pitt St, laughed at the poor quality of the prints, but we thought they were pretty good! The only real way to make your prints look really old is, it seems, to leave the film almost 4 years before processing it! A new technique? Mmm…

Feet is a random selection of shots from all over the world of mainly Jones’ (and occasionally Twinkle’s) feet. It’s a log of just some of the dozens of pairs of Converse All Stars that Jones has walked in, along with other brands such as his rather rare Hungarian Tiszas, worn only on very special outings, or when he’s wearing green. For some reason, these shots seem to centre on London and Hong Kong, though that may be because we’ve only thoroughly searched our London and Hong Kong archive for shots of this classification. We bought some new art today - a squashed concrete can by Will Coles. We’ve admired his work for ages, because it’s found all over Sydney, glued to pavements and curbs in all sorts of well hidden places. The first piece I ever saw was a mobile phone which I thought was real, and as we saw more, we realised this man might just be a little crazy. TV remotes, teddy bears, can’s like this one, and even a football (chained to a street sign in the CBD) are all cast from concrete, helping them to beautifully blend into their surroundings. I tripped over a piece near Central Station on my way home from work a few months back. Introducing Beryl, the next in our Gocco bear series. Beryl was much more successful than Bernard was a few weeks ago, with 50 perfect examples achieved, and not a single reject! We deliberately stuck to a single colour option to allow us to concentrate on getting consistency, and we think we’ve nailed the early registration problems we were having. We’re currently working to get the paper larger to allow for better window mounting, as these were printed on slightly smaller paper than we’ve used before.

Prices: AU$10.00 each (or £5.00 for those in the old world) plus postage and packaging (which won’t be much, as we’ll just stick him in an envelope along with some stiff card to protect him). We accept cash, and also Paypal for those overseas. Contact us for details of how to pay.

When your toaster cooks it’s very last slice of Sunblest, Jones has a new use for it. Whilst the outside of our knackered Russell Hobbs 9206 classic 2 slicer received a coat of shiny, hard wearing orange enamel, the inside was overhauled to hold up to 150 pencils. The theory is simple - when the pencils are sharpened, they drop lower into the slot, so a lift on the level ensures they can still be recovered for use. A handily placed telephone address book is hidden away inside the crumb tray for quick reference. I do worry about Jones sometimes, but his desk (shown above) is certainly tidier now!

This is “Help!”, which I’ve uploaded for Illustration Friday, for the subject ‘Rescue’.  I’ve never had a wheel clamp, but have often wondered what you do if you call the number and no one answers. This was drawn with a pen, and then coloured up in Photoshop. I’m thinking about printing it as a Gocco… mmm, maybe not.
